"He said if I told anyone, I would never see my family again."1 This
is what one of the young victims in the Penn State sexual abuse scandal
said to help the jury understand why kids who are sexually abused keep
silent. But this act of "suppression" is just one small part of the
grooming process by sexual predators.
Jerry Sandusky – the founder of a charity for at-risk youth, long-time assistant coach to legendary Joe Paterno and respected member of the community – is now a convicted child molester who can expect to live out the rest of his days behind bars.
At his Second Mile charity, Sandusky used his position to identify fatherless boys between the ages of 8 and 12. He then showered them with "special" attention, giving them gifts, parading them around the Penn State facilities, bringing them to the football games and fostering a father-son relationship before betraying their trust … by using them to satisfy his own depraved sexual appetite.This perpetrator's lust-filled lifestyle amazingly reflects these words of warning written years ago: "I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes. In their own eyes they flatter themselves too much to detect or hate their sin. The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good. Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong" (Psalm 36:1-4 NIV).
