From our contact in Pakistan…
On 21st July, 2013, a new case of blasphemy was registered against a
Christian couple in Gojra City. Shafaqat Masih and his wife Shagufta
Bibi were falsely accused under the strict blasphemy law Under Section
295/B and 295/C bearing FIR No.407/13. Police and the complainant
claimed that the couple sent a blasphemous text message from their cell
phone. The police raided the Gojra Church premises and arrested Shagufta
Bibi, Shafaqat Masih and their children and took them to the police
station where they were severely tortured. Shafaqat, who is crippled,
admitted that he and his his wife had sent the blasphemous text message
in question. His lawyer denied this and stated that he just wanted to
save his wife from the accusation and avoid the torture.
On 25th July, 2013, Rescue Christians took up this case and arranged
to take the children to visit the parents in the District Jail Toba Tek
Singh. It was a very heart-touching moment when the children and mother
cried and lamented on the present situation. Even the jail police and
the officials of our organization shed tears on the helplessness of
these vulnerable souls. It is a very tragic situation that a crippled
man who is in a wheel chair and his wife who is sadly also illiterate
have been separated from their young and innocent children who are just
6,8,9 and 11 years-old. It is our humble request to everyone to come
forward and help this family from this injustice.
This week alone, we have taken on three cases new cases. We took on a
case of a kidnapping victim who had been gang raped multiple times
because she would not convert to Islam. The third case is a man who has
been convicted to life in prison for being falsely accused of the
blasphemy laws, we are taking up the case with the Pakistani supreme
court to have the conviction and sentence overturned.
The costs to help these people is significant. If you have not
contributed yet, please consider partnering with us with any monthly
amount you can afford so we can help our brothers and sisters in
Pakistan. Last year we saved 500. Our goal this year is to help many
more. Our partners in Pakistan when they get involved in every case we
