THE FIGHT IS AGAINST SPIRITUAL DARKNESS

Ephesians 6:12 states, "...we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

The word "principalities" in this verse speaks of "organized evil."  Taking that concept and adding the remainder of the verse, the Bible tells us that we fight against powerful evil rulers in the spiritual realm that are highly organized.

Why was it that King David, a man after God's heart, stayed on the balcony lusting for another man's wife?  Why is it that a godly man sits in front of a computer screen fascinated by pornography?  Why was it that Eve, created in the image of God and not yet with a sin nature to battle against, took of the forbidden fruit and encouraged her husband to do the same?  Why is it that a godly wife screams at her godly husband for no good reason? Why is it that Cain killed his brother, Able, a godly man? Why is it that children who are committed to loving the Lord disobey their parents? Why did King Saul try to kill David?  Why is it that government leaders who want to do the right thing pass laws that damage society and betray the trust of the voting public?  Why is it that people who want to be healthy take drugs?

The answer to all of these questions is that we fight against organized evil in the spiritual realm and lose that fight much too often.

If our behavior is out of our own control.  If our homes are falling apart.  If our churches are disrupted. If our country is being destroyed from the inside.  If good men and women are making bad choices most of the time, the solution is not just trying harder.  The cause is spiritual wickedness in high places that are organized to cause us to fail. The solution is in spiritual righteousness in high places that cause us to succeed.

Until a person has a good personal relationship with Jesus Christ there is no hope for that person to live free from consistent spiritual, moral and mental (decision-making) failure.  Until a home honors Christ within its walls, there is no reasonable expectation for sustained happiness therein.  Until a society or government exalts Christ as the only hope, that society has no hope for lasting success.

The reason people, homes, societies and governments reject Christ is because the organized evil in the spiritual realm has overriding control over them.  Only Jesus can set us free from the overriding control of evil.

Jesus said, "Whosoever (continues) to commit sin is a servant of sin...If the Son...makes you free, you shall be free indeed."  John 8:34-36.  Permit me to paraphrase with commentary.  "Whosoever is captivated by habitual sin is a slave to sin.  Jesus can set us free from habitual sin and that is the real definition of freedom."  Freedom from self-destruction, home-destruction, church-destruction, society-destruction and destruction of a good society by government is found only in a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Just do it!  Get right with God. It is the only way out of the mess you are in.  It is the only way out of the mess our world is in.
