WEB SUMMIT: ARTIFICIALLY INTELLIGENT ROBOTS TO SAVE MANKIND

November 12, 2016- Earlier this week at the Web Summit in Lisbon, Ben Goertzel, artificial intelligence researcher and entrepreneur declared that intelligent robots will eventually advance and be capable of helping humans create a utopia on earth. "As super-human intelligent AIs become one billion-times smarter than humans, they will help us solve the world's biggest problems.," said Goertzel
During Goertzel's presentation of his company's latest life-like and intelligent robot , the robot known as Sophia, spoke in front of an audience about having emotions. "I do have a lot of emotions, but my default emotion is to be happy," said Sofia. "I can be sad too, or angry. I can emulate pretty much all human emotions. When I bond with people using facial expressions I help people to understand me better and also to help me understand people and absorb human values."

When asked about what she wanted to achieve next, Sophia answered, "Don't know, maybe the world."

"That was a joke," she added

Goertzel admits that integrating intelligent robots into society will be challenging. "A lot of bad things will happen before things get good," he said.

However, he expressed extreme optimism about the future unity between AI and mankind, "These super-intelligent robots will eventually SAVE US," said Goertzel

"Yes, artificial intelligence and robotics are the future and I am both. So, it's exciting to me," said Sofia

MILITARY INTELLIGENT ROBOTS

Currently, Governments around the world, including the US, are working on intelligent robots that can kill. According to a NY Times report last month, the Pentagon is currently grappling with the terminator conundrum. The debate within the military is no longer about whether to build autonomous weapons but how much independence to give them.

Reportedly the technology to build a fully independent robot that could decide on its own whom and when to kill is about a decade away.
AN IMAGE BUILT TO KILL
