What is Atheism?

In its simplest form, and according to the dictionary, atheism is the "doctrine or belief that there is no God". That is the number one most common definition for atheism according to dictionary.com. When people not familiar with atheism give it any thought at all they generally get the impression that atheism is the belief system of people who don't believe in the existence of God. The proponents of atheism have held a more strict definition of atheism by using the word itself to define it. This is clever and not refutable from a logical sense. The word really does define atheism quite well. Since the word "theism" means having a belief in God then it is a reasonable extension that putting the letter "a" in front of "theism" would depict a lack of or non belief in a God or gods. There are quite literally millions of people who walk through life with a non-belief in God in many or all aspects of living. I used to be one of these people. I brushed off any attempts by believers to "witness" to me. I chose rather to live by my own wits and desires. I was repeatedly told by my father that when we die we rot and that's it. "So get all the living you can get", he would say. That's exactly what I did until I was twenty seven and so did my siblings. My older brother was one of the original Chip and Dale exotic dancers and continues that lifestyle to this day. Another brother is a male stripper in Toronto. I guess that's what they consider "living". I chose the business route. I decided I would make enough money to get a few toys and some trophy women and that would be great. By the time I was twenty seven I had burned through my first marriage and around one and a half million dollars. I was bankrupt and alone. Atheism was no longer serving me well. I needed God. In the darkness of my despair He reached out to me in a language that was very personal to me and I've been following Him ever since. My biological father told me I had a crutch and this "phase" would pass. He would often refer to my crutch as he poured his drinks to numb his own personal pains and silence the demons which tormented him. I was free... and I knew it. As the number of atheists grows around the world it has been partitioned into several subcategories. There is "strong atheism" which borders on the Christopher Hitchens type of anti-theism but is afraid to make such a heavy statement which actually admits that there is a god and that god is a monster. No, strong atheism is a near certainty that no god exists anywhere and these people live their lives accordingly; continuously aware that their lives have no real eternal, transcendental value other than whatever rockthrown-in-the-pond effect they may have had in the natural world in which they interacted. They possess a subjective, animalistic, pragmatic morality that reflects whatever benefits them in the moment.

Strong Atheism

There have been many attempts to apply grades to the definition of atheism. In my many debates with atheists I like to quote the Random House Dictionary which, as I previously stated, says the number one most common definition for atheism is “the doctrine or belief that there is no god”. That is strong atheism according to those I have debated. It is the near certainty that no god exists and it is a life lived accordingly. Richard Dawkins is such a person. He conducts his affairs, lectures, and conferences with the smug personal assurance that God simply does not exist. He doesn't appear to be an anti-theist like Christopher Hitchens who has made millions of dollars selling books which make bold declarations like “God is a monster” and “people are more moral than God“. I’m not going to say much about the anti-theists in this book since they are basically antagonistic toward God; always challenging His followers to shed their mythologies and embrace the life of one who can do life themselves without the assistance of the “baby-killing monster in the sky“. We all know how that story ends anyway.

Weak Atheism

Weak atheism is nothing more than agnosticism. It is the lack of sufficient knowledge as to the existence of God rather than the near certainty that He does not exist. Agnosticism, which makes the single statement “I don’t know”, really is the only intellectually honest position when dealing with the existence of God when a person doesn't know God personally. 

Weak atheism is not atheism when we use the word to define its meaning. If atheism is a non-belief or lack of belief in God then weak atheism does not qualify as atheism and should be discarded. Even Dawkins prefers to deal only with the realities of atheism, agnosticism, and theism (wikipedia). Further partitioning is just political means to gather persons into the atheist camp. In case you haven’t noticed we’re going to reference Dawkins a lot in this book since he is one of the most popular atheists alive today. This being true and in light of the enormous popularity of his books I can safely say he represents a large portion of modern atheists. We reference him also because of fair-use obligations as he is a very public person and has made his views know in a very public fashion. The ancient Romans used to accuse first century Christians of atheism because of their lack of belief in the pagan deities. This tactic is in widespread use today. I have often been accused of being atheistic toward all gods except the one I believe in. This too is an empty intellectual exercise in sophistry. The very word “atheism” refutes this claim.

Real Atheism

Atheism is a-theism. It is the lack of, or non-belief, in any god. This doesn't mean selective atheism. As we already discussed, theism is the positive believe in the existence of God. Therefore a-theism is the lack of belief in God of any sort. The accusation leveled by the Romans and which is still being leveled today is intellectually dishonest and serves only to muddy the waters. Agnosticism says “I don’t have enough information to make a decision one way or the other”. It also says, “If I get enough evidence I will believe and I will keep an open mind about this”. That, my friend, is the only logical and honest position for the unbeliever. Everything else; every other position is either religion or  knowledge.

An Ancient Worldview

Nearly all of what I just wrote is from the world’s perspective. It is the culmination of thousands of years of attempting to put a nuanced, believable spin on a very old lie; the lie that we can do life without God. Ever since the fall of mankind the Devil has been lying to us about God and in fact he’s been quite effective at it. As we look deeper into it we realize that he’s also been lying to us about ourselves. So that brings us to modern atheism. I've been debating modern atheists for several years now. I used to be one. Modern atheism in western culture is the manifestation of the lie. “Hath God really said”, the Devil replied. “If you eat from this tree you will be like God, knowing good and evil yourselves” (Gen 3). Modern atheism has placed man in the seat of God; being the judge of all things. Modern atheists are the fulfillment of that devilish plan. Even Jesus lamented this coming reality when He said “Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” (Lk 18:8b). He knew what was ahead for the minds of humanity. People have abandoned faith, as Solzhenitsyn implied, and embraced the philosophy of naturalism. That’s what modern atheism is. The philosophy of naturalism is not naturalism per se’. There are many forms of naturalism. Nudism is a form of naturalism that does not necessarily embrace atheism. In fact, or so I've heard, there are Christian nudist resorts all around the world. I have no opinion about such things really except to say “count me out”. The “philosophy” of naturalism basically says that there is nothing outside of nature. Everything is natural and can only be experienced naturally. There’s no such thing as a spiritual or transcendental reality because only that which can be tested scientifically is real. Science has placed mankind in charge. Science is knowable by the human mind through natural means. Therefore no god or gods are necessary because through science we can know all things. Now doesn't that sound familiar? “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil” Genesis 3:5 The philosophy of naturalism is modern atheism. The more you spend time with groups who call themselves “atheist” the more you will realize this truth. The recent advancement of atheism is the direct result of a theory which has produced an explosion in the membership ranks of atheism.

Supported by Pseudo-science

Pan-genus biological progressive mutation by natural selection is the creation story for the philosophy of naturalism beginning with a-biogenesis (life from non-life). We’ll get into that later in greater detail. It is wrongly labeled as “evolution”. Evolution means nothing more or less than “change over time”. That’s all it means. Modern atheists have hijacked the word “evolution” to create an illusion of credibility with the public. Keep in mind that modern atheism is the manifestation of a very old lie. It follows then that many lies will need to be told to keep the original lie going. Modern atheism relies on the general lack of knowledge on the part of the masses in order keep the deception going. Atheism is entirely dependent on pre-emptive ridicule and mockery of anyone who defies the scientific claims of the proponents of the philosophy; a philosophy which has its roots in the Garden of Eden. In case you doubt me on this may I suggest a little experiment? Get yourself a camera. Now get yourself a “Youtube” channel. Most of you already have one anyway. Make a video with a title that goes something like “Why I don’t believe in Evolution” or something to that effect. Just do a short video outlining how you don’t see any evidence for evolution and you believe God loves you and created you and so on. Now sit back and watch the comments roll in. I have two “Youtube” accounts which have had to have the comment sections turned off because of the absolute filth and depravity that spews from the atheist community. They will mock you and ridicule you and call you all manner of defamatory names just to knock you down so that you don’t dare question the philosophy any longer. Go ahead, give it a try.

Caught in a Trap

When I make my videos in my personal attempt to reach out to the atheist community I used to stand in front of a chain link fence with barbed wire on top. The barbed wire is pointing away from me to imply that I am on the outside of the “prison”. In this chapter defining atheism I simply could not leave out the reality that modern atheism, the philosophy of naturalism, is in fact a prison. People who embrace modern atheism have chosen the life of an inmate trapped in the most closed-minded philosophy imaginable. Atheism says there is nothing outside of nature. It’s a thought prison without any locks or guards. They could, theoretically, simply walk away from this prison without anyone stopping them. So why don’t they? Here’s the answer: 

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the

minds of them

which believe not, lest the light of the glorious

gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should

shine unto them. 2 Cor 4:4

The warden of the mind prison is Satan himself. He has closed or “blinded” their minds to the truth. They are trapped in a prison. That is what modern atheism really is. The philosophy of naturalism is a prison that more and more people are entering of their own free will because their minds have been blinded by Satan. That is modern atheism. Modern atheism is a mental disorder. I know that sounds harsh but since their minds are blinded that means they have a disorder of the mind, right? If their minds were not blinded they would see the logical fallacy of atheism. I see it. Millions of other people see it. To not see it due to mental blindness is a mental disorder. It doesn't take a PhD to figure that one out. Obviously it’s not the sort of mental disorder which requires medical treatment or any such thing but it does require the person’s loved ones to pray for the blinders to be removed. It requires the one who is doing the blinding to take them off. It requires authority. It requires the will of God to line up with the will of the person.

So, how does the Bible define the atheist? Well, for starters, not much is said about them in the Bible. For the most part the Bible presupposes the existence of God because of the personal interactions with Him. We have reached a pinnacle of prophetic fulfillment today with the advent of the knowledge increase prophesied by the prophet Daniel twenty five hundred years ago. With this increase in knowledge (science) we have a contemporaneous increase in the narcissistic attitudes of those who possess this knowledge. The Bible, however, is not totally silent on the atheist as we see here.

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.

They are corrupt, they have done abominable

works, there is none that doeth good”

Psalms 14:1

So, the Bible defines the atheist as “The fool”. That’s it. When we deal with the atheist we are dealing with fools. If we conflate that statement with my assertion that atheists have a mental disorder we get the big picture, right? Atheism is a foolish mental disorder. There is a very strong movement spreading across the world today with regard to the philosophy of naturalism, or modern atheism that seems to directly coincide with the prophetic fulfillment of end time prophecy. This movement is very religious in nature. It is the religion of atheism.
