Romney raises twice as much as Obama - Presidents are bought, not elected says Obama Campaign

In a stunning email marked "urgent" by the Obama campaign Jim Messina, Obama's campaign manager said that Romney is raising twice as much money and it could cost them the election. The clear implication here is that American presidents are bought and sold, not elected. Here's the email (portion):

Friend -- Romney and the Republicans announced yesterday that they brought in more than $100 million in June. For context, that's about what we raised in April and May combined. We're still tallying our own numbers, but this means their gap is getting wider, and if it continues at this pace, it could cost us the election. If everyone who's been waiting to give pitches in $3 or more today, we can start reversing this trend in just a few hours. It goes on to detail how the camps are raising the money, Obama getting most from donors giving less than $1000 and Romney raising from donors giving more than $1000. Whatever the case, Romney is clearly getting monetary support from the more affluent Americans whose votes matter just as much as anyone else's and who perhaps see a grim future in America under 4 more years of Obama. Many people secretly believe this but in a democratic election process the people contending for office aren't supposed to run their campaigns based on the premise that the system is corrupt!... are they?
