PALM BEACH, Fla. – With Hurricane Isaac headed toward the U.S. Gulf Coast this afternoon, radio host Rush Limbaugh said President Obama is tied to more misery than caused by any natural disaster.
While his staff threw out answers including obesity, eating carrots, heart disease and jury verdicts in Los Angeles, Limbaugh explained:
“There’s one thing that kills more people than natural disasters, and that’s poverty. Poverty kills more people than natural disasters. Poverty has always been a killer. Why worry about it otherwise? Now, who has done more to increase poverty in this country in the last four years?
“Barry. The One. The Big O. You could say that President Obama has been tied to more misery than people in natural disasters. I mean if you wanted to be real about it. Of course, that’s being critical of Obama and we’re not supposed to do that, because, of course, that’s racist.”
Meanwhile, as Isaac gets closer to landfall, Limbaugh said he expects TV networks to use a split-screen effect to show GOP speakers such as New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at the Republican National Convention in Tampa on one side while storm impact even from previous hurricanes is displayed on the other.
“So Christie is gonna stride in there and there’s gonna be split screen. They have Christie doing his speech, fire and brimstone, whatever he’s gonna do,” he said.
“And the split screen will show flooding and replays of Katrina. If this one isn’t bad enough, they’ll go get Katrina footage. They’ll go anywhere they have to to get flooding. People standing on planks of wood in puddles of water desperately waiting for helicopter rescues. Whatever it takes! With Chris Christie on the other half of the screen talking about what a rotten guy Obama is. Then the split screen back to Obama getting off the plane in New Orleans with the FEMA director. You can see it.
“Not a word, not a single word about drought relief in the Midwest that will happen as this category 1 hurricane … moves up the Mississippi Valley and dumps some much-needed rain on many parts of the fruited plain. Nope. Death, destruction, homelessness, disaster, while the Republican convention is going on.
Meanwhile, Limbaugh is dousing speculation he is going to be the so-called “mystery speaker” who is unnamed as of this time on the official schedule of the RNC for Thursday night.
“Popular names are Sarah Palin, Nancy Reagan and me,” he said, referring to online speculation about the identity of the speaker.
“I just want to tell you it isn’t me,” he said. “I’m not the mystery speaker.”
“I am looked at by these Republicans we’ve been talking about as a liability. I am not an asset.”
