On Friday, an article at The Blaze listed what it called the "14 creepiest threats to kill Mitt Romney." Two of the threats documented by The Blaze cited food stamps while another person said he hates Romney's voice.
"I aint gone lie (sic)," one person wrote. "Food stamps the s**t! I mite assasinate romney my d**n self if he get elected (sic)," the tweet said.
"[I] jus used close to $200 worth of food stamps today (sic)," another person wrote, claiming that "70 percent" of the country will "assassinate" Romney if he takes away food stamps.
"I hate Romney's voice," another person said. "Somebody assassinate him now..."
Threats to kill a presidential candidate violate federal law, and those engaged in that activity could be fined and sentenced to five years in prison.
Many of those issuing the threats do so using the social media site Twitter, violating Twitter rules, and other laws that deal with issuing threats using electronic methods.
Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary told the Weekly Standard that the agency is aware of the online threats and will "conduct appropriate follow up if necessary."
