Washington Bites ~ Needed: U.S. Policy on Syria

Richard Hellman addresses the issue, "Needed: U.S. Policy on Syria."

The dire consequences of the U.S. government's stumbling into a deeper involvement in Syria without a coherent national policy that our citizens - and other nations - can understand and follow, continue to unfold. Now the Pentagon has agreed to leave F-16 fighter bombers and Patriot missiles in Jordan after multinational military exercises there this coming week. Although hints they may serve to enforce a partial no-fly zone over Syria were quashed by the White House, the action drew opposition from Russian foreign minister Lavrov, who said a no-fly zone would contravene international law. Thus prospects for a conference of the warring parties, under US and Russian sponsorship, proposed for this month or next, appear bleak.
