Residents woke up to find their properties several feet under water in a scene one man described as "apocalyptic".
The flooding hit Half Moon Lane in Herne Hill, south London, due to a burst water main and people were being advised to stay in their homes. Fire crews, using special dingy-style boats, have been working to clear the water estimated at one metre deep and covering about 100 metres (328ft) of road.
