Reuters news service is reporting that Russian President Vladimir Putin has now officially firmed his grip over Russia's media on Monday and dissolved the most prominent Russian state news agency. They report that Putin has now replaced that news agency with with an organization that is to "promote Moscow's image abroad."

"The main focus of ... Rossiya Segodnya (Russia Today) is to highlight abroad the state policy and public life of the Russian Federation," said a decree signed by Putin.

Reuters reports that the majority of  Russian media outlets are already in the tank for Putin, and his opponents get very little air time. The head of the new news agency, is a conservative news anchor, Dmitry Kiselyov, who once caused outrage by saying the organs of homosexuals should not be used in transplants.

At PPSIMMONS, we are just thankful that "king" Obama does not wish to do something similar here in the United States...or....has it already been done - just more surreptitiously?
