"The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works...." Psalms 14:1, KJV
Atheism is the belief system of the corrupt and those who do abominable works. Atheists opt not to believe in God because by denying the existence of God they think they do not have to live a life accountable to their Creator for their corrupt character and abominable works. Belief in God and accountability to God are just deferred for them until after their physical death. There are no real atheists in this life or the afterlife and none escape accountability to God.
"And I saw...the small and great, stand before God...and...judged...according to their (abominable) works....whosoever was not found written in the book of life (salvation) was cast into the fire." Revelation 20:11-26 KJV, Parenthesis mine.
Proclaiming a non-belief in physical death does nothing to change the fact that every person will face death. People who deny that are fools and everyone knows it, including them.
A person saying that he or she does not believe in life after death does not change the fact that everyone lives forever. People who verbally deny the reality of life after death are fools and everyone knows that, including them. Denial of reality does not change reality. In reality, there is no such thing as an atheist. There are those who acknowledge the existence of God and there are those who do not. Only a fool says in his heart (with emotional sincerity but with intellectual and spiritual dishonesty) there is no God. No one really "believes" (with mind, conscience awareness and emotions) there is no God but they find comfort in lying about it to others and to themselves.
In order for any person to be a true atheist, the Holy Spirit would have to fail at one of his duties which is to convict (convince) every person of judgement after this life. "And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:" John 16:8.

When a person tells me that he or she does not believe in the eternal judgment of God, I am faced with a question. Do I believe that person and accept the position that the Holy Spirit has failed in His job or do I believe the Holy Spirit has done his job and this corrupt person is lying to me, even if lying from the heart? The answer is no-contest. The corrupt person is lying. He is a fool and anyone who believes him is foolish. Everyone, at some level of awareness, believes there is a God.
