How the Body of Christ is SUPPOSED to Function

I was standing by the sound technicians in the church last Sunday wondering if I could perhaps learn something about how all that technical stuff works. Our sound guy was very good at explaining it all to me while at the same time fine tuning the sound board using the various knobs and buttons to make all of the different instruments and singers sound the way they should. It really is fascinating stuff.

He explained how each dial works a specific way and serves a very specific purpose. If one of these isn't adjusted properly then none of it will sound right, he explained. He also said that if you take away one of these knobs or buttons then the unit loses its full capacity - it cannot realize its true and full potential. Of the hundreds of individual parts on this sound board - each one has a role to play; an important role and if it's not functioning as it should then it is less than it could be.

The body of Christ is the same way. Notice in this picture that the unit is the sum of its parts. Nothing really sticks out. It is all rather harmonious - aggregated into an instrument capable of generating beautiful sounds and rhythms. People who try to stand out in the church and want to be a "somebody" need to realize that we are ALL equally valuable to the body and if one is missing the whole thing is dramatically reduced in potency. Essentially all we are are knobs and buttons on a sound board - each with jobs to perform and an important role to play.

1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
14 For the body is not one member, but many.
15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:
25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it
So you see that as we work together, as a body, we are working as the Lord wants His body to function. We all have a role to play in the Kingdom work. Rather than trying to have someone else's position in the body why not seek the Lord on what your position is and then be the best at it - no matter what it is. Take it from me - the sooner you seek the Lord on what to do instead of envying someone else and trying to have their place of authority the more quickly YOU can find YOUR place in the body and find true contentment doing what you were meant to do.

Finally there is one more fascinating thing about this particular sound board - the most important button of all - the POWER button. It's hidden! You can't see it but it's there. And without the power button this thing is useless! Just like our savior who lives in the transcendental places - the supernatural realms. He's there, waiting to be activated- to be accessed. He longs for us to reach out to him - to call upon His name - he waits. It's not until the Power of God is turned on in the church that the true purposes of why we exist can be manifested. Amen.

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2
