Obama Campaign Desperate to Meet Fundraising Deadline - Calls Election Year "Madness"

(photo - sodahead.com)

The most recent bulk email from the Obama campaign comes from Rufus Gifford - National Finance Director, Obama for America. It's a desperate plea for money - and according to Rufus the entire campaign budget is "up in the air" for 2012 unless people give NOW!

"Hands down, this is the biggest fundraising deadline this campaign has faced so far. I've seen the budget we're hoping to roll out first thing next year -- and I can tell you so much of it is up in the air, depending on the support people like you show in these final two weeks. If you were thinking you should hold off on making another donation until sometime next year, please don't. The time to have a real impact is now, before the madness of an election year is upon us." - Rufus Gifford
.There isn't any real explanation for the urgency to give before the end of the year. I suppose it has much to do with the primary fund being increased as much as possible because perhaps all monies collected after the Dec 31 deadline given by Rufus will have to go to the general fund. Until now all the money donated has gone into the primary election fund - that way they can double the limit on donations from $2500 to $5000 by splitting the election into two - primary and general. But now the desperation has set in so maybe the split election fundraising opportunity dries up Dec 31?

Finally near the end of the Obama campaign email you will notice that Rufus called election years "madness". Madness? The opportunity to elect a representative is "madness"? This person is the National Finance Director for Obama's re-election team. Wouldn't "excitement" be a better choice of words?... just saying.
