Crime to escalate in Detroit following decision to turn off street lights

Isn't this just what the Motor City needs? Less lighting on the streets?

Detroit, whose 139 square miles contain 60 percent fewer residents than in 1950, will try to nudge them into a smaller living space by eliminating almost half its streetlights. Read more here.

I can remember reporting a theft to an officer many years ago when I lived in a poorly lit area. The "perp" took some items out of my shed and, since the car was locked they broke a window to get a $5 bill from the center console.

The officer told me to put up lights! Lots of lights! "Thieves don't like the light", the officer explained. "They stay away from it"

So essentially the once glorious "Motown" will be using its criminal element to drive people into a smaller area. Crime will escalate and people will be hurt as a result. Detroit just got a little scarier.
