White House May Hold President Obama’s Official Inauguration in Private


ObamaInaugurationThere is controversy surrounding President Obama’s inauguration in January. The White House Press Corps has sent a letter to the Obama administration with questions about whether the swearing-in will be kept from the press.

The Constitution dictates that the inauguration must be held on January 20th. This year, that date falls on a Sunday – a day in which no public inaugurations are held. Katie Pavlich, news editor for townhall.com, explained that in this instance, a private inauguration would be held over the weekend and a public ceremony would take place the following Monday.

However, the White House has indicated that the press may be excluded from the official swearing-in. The Presidential Inauguration Committee says nothing has been decided yet, but they sent out a press release referring to a “private inauguration.”
