There is so much talk today of a Third Temple, and many many people seem to look at this as a Sign of Christ's Return. But what does the Bible say, exactly, about a Third Temple? Will there be a Third Temple? Is a Third Temple needed to fulfill all prophecy?
What the Gospels say about a Third Temple
Let's do a Word Search of the word Temple (KJV), starting with the gospels. Let's see what we find. There are 61 responses, but let's consider where it talks specifically on this subject and not in general of the Temple.
Here's what we find in the gospels... I am looking in order as the verses come forth, so as not to bring my own ideas into the mix. Let's simply look at what the scriptures teach...

I cannot say that I agree with or even understand all of what Steve Fletcher has written here but he helps me to think "outside the box". There is an absolute refusal by mainline Theologians to examine the relationship between current events and Scripture without insisting that all Scripture must conform to traditional conclusions reached many years ago through strict adherence to their particular version of systematic theology. THAT is exactly what prevented the Scribes and Pharisees from accepting Jesus as the promised Messiah. He fulfilled plain Scripture but did not conform to the ancient and venerated interpretations of the Rabbis. I refuse to be caught in that trap and Steve helps me escape... Worth reading!
ReplyDeleteThirty days has April, Julie, and NoWonder, All the rest eat peanut butter except grandma and she rides a bicycle. This article and my above comment makes about the same amount of sense.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that a Temple building is not necessary to be built prior to the return of our messiah. Several OT writes speak of sacrifices being offered in the mil lineal kingdom. When the Lower Kingdom returned from Babylon they made sacrifices prior to building the Temple. With that said you failed to mention Amos 9. There the prophet said the "Tabernacle of David" would be restored. That would be a portable "Tent" of Meeting. Twisting the body of believers as a Sanctuary of the Eternal is just that, twisting. AND the word wicked is the root word meaning of twisted. We have enough "twisted interpretations" in the body of the Mesiah.
