THE HIGHJACKING OF AMERICA'S FREEDOM
Numerous media sources are now reporting that the killing of a Transportation Security Administration officer at Los Angeles International Airport last Friday is fueling frantic appeals from union leaders for Congress to give some of the agency’s employees guns and handcuffs. They are even calling for the power for the TSA to make arrests.
However, it seems it will be a hard thing to bring to reality if many conservatives in Congress have their way. Not too long ago, some conservative congressmen were even trying to take the badges from the TSA officer.
The killing of Gerardo Hernandez and the ensuing
gunfight at LAX seems to have sparked off the long held debate concerning the
powers of TSA. Even though TSA screeners are not considered "law enforecement officers" many of them wear badges. Hernandez
was the first TSA officer killed in the line of duty in the agency’s
history.
