AN OPEN LETTER TO BRITTANY MAYNARD

Dear Mrs. Maynard,

I am truly saddened by your illness, especially at such a young age.  I do not pretend to know how you feel; that is impossible for anyone not in your situation.

Your decision to end your life prematurely is an issue that is fraught with unanswered questions.   (Source: http://www.lifenews.com/2014/10/08/29-year-old-woman-with-brain-cancer-plans-to-kill-herself-november-1st/).  However, that is a secondary question because physical death is a once in a lifetime experience and 100 years from now, none of us will have escaped physical death.  Your statement that after this life you are ready to face "whatever comes next" is reflective of two things. First, you are aware that something comes after this life. Second, you do not know what that something is.

Before you end your life, if that is your decision, I would ask you to consider the following.  There are only two options. Either there is a God or there is not.  If there is no God then after this life, nothing comes next.  If God exists, then after this life something comes that is for eternity, since God is eternal.

It does not matter what you or I believe regarding reality.  No one can change reality by believing against it or do more to make it real by believing in it.  If there is an eternity, then you are not only ending your physical life on November 1st, you are stepping into eternity.  You may have given more thought to your planned physical death than to the eternity that follows.

The statistical probability of evolution being true and there being no Creator God is no more than 1 in 600 billion; which, statistically, is zero.  http://www.dyeager.org/blog/2008/04/probability-evolution.html

After this life there are two realities; Heaven and Hell.  Those who exit this life with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ spend eternity with the Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven. Those who exit this life without a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ spend eternity in Hell.  According to the Bible and according to the spiritual intuition of almost every person who has ever lived, Hell would be worse than dying of brain cancer without the aid of pain killers.  Unlike physical death, the pain of Hell is never-ending.

"If you confess with your mouth, that Jesus Christ is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved." Romans 10:9.  This is not just a prayer, but a statement of your heart.  It is like when a person gets married. The vows they offer and receive are worthless if there is no sincerity.  The vows are a reflection of the condition of the heart. I sincerely pray that you will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior before your physical life ends, however that end comes. He is easy to find when the heart-search is sincere and on-going.  He died for your sins so you would not have to pay for your sins in the devil's Hell. His gift is eternal life in Heaven with God. However, like all gifts, it must be received.  See Romans 5 and 2 Corinthians 5:21.

I am not inviting you to investigate a religion. I am inviting you seek God and the real person of the Lord Jesus Christ.  No one is ready to exit this life into whatever comes next, if what is coming next for that person is Hell.

You are in my prayers.   May God grant you wisdom so your eternity is one of peace, purpose and comfort -- not pain and regret.
