White House: NASA’s mission: Return to the moon by 2024

Yesterday, President Trump shared big news as he set new priorities for America's future in space. "Under my Administration, we are restoring [NASA] to greatness and we are going back to the Moon, then Mars," the President wrote on Twitter.

NASA is set to bring America back to the lunar surface by 2024. This new mission is fittingly named Artemis, after the Greek goddess of the Moon—and Apollo's twin sister.

Even more historic: The next man on the moon will be accompanied by the first woman to ever step foot on its surface. "Everyone who is of age remembers where they were when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the Moon. We are trying to create that moment for the next generation," NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine says.

"NASA plans to land the first woman on the moon by 2024."
