By His Stripes We are HEALED? Then Why am I still SICK? (WARNING! CONTAINS CONFIDENT MUSCULAR CHRISTIAN LANGUAGE!)

It's a question we get often via the ministry email address, ppsimmons@live.com. Here is the most recent one:

"The Bible says that if we have faith as a grain of mustard seed that we would be able to move mountains and we are also told that by his stripes we are healed. Then why are so many of God's people sick and they are not healed when prayed for? My pastor said that having sickness produces patience even if a loved one dies of cancer. Well, I have had several loved ones die of cancer and the only thing it produced was heartache, financial ruin, destroyed families and a mockery of Christianity. Now either the Bible is wrong and we believe a lie, or something is wrong with us that needs to be corrected. I have fasted and prayed and claimed all the promise scriptures on health and healing. I went into such a depression that I was placed in a mental hospital because my family was afraid I was becoming suicidal, which I was. I need a real answer for the here and now and not just a promise of heaven when I die. If our faith can't help us in this life, then how can I trust it to help me in the next?"

 Now that's a great question. Great because it is real and honest and from the heart. This person wants to know if the God he has been reaching out to is a God with whom he can "do business" in the here and now. It's not pious or reverent or pretty. But relationships in community rarely are.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.Psalms 51:17

The person wrote in the email "we are also told that by his stripes we are healed." This is true and this will be the focus of this article. Let's take a look at the scripture reference in context. Emphasis mine.

Isaiah 53:1  ¶Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2  For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3  He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4  ¶Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6  All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7  He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8  He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9  And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10  ¶Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
11  He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12  Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Isaiah 53 is an exquisite treatise on a future event from Isaiah's perspective - a prophecy which was fulfilled in shocking detail by Jesus. The entire account is an expose' of the punishment for the sins of humanity being poured out upon Him. Where a gaping rift existed, that broken link between God and men, a healing would occur, by His stripes. If the verse in question referred strictly to physical healing then God is truly incompetent. However when we accurately conflate all of the available information on this we can safely conclude that not only is God not incompetent but that this entire chapter was fulfilled with stunning accuracy by Jesus Himself.

Jesus, by yielding his back to the whip, took our punishment for our sins and healed that wounded relationship between the Father and humanity. It is this broken, wounded relationship which was healed so that we could once again enter into relationship with Him and no longer rely on prophets and Levitical priests to speak to God on our behalf. We can now enter into His presence - because of Jesus and the stripes He bore for us.

Again, if the words "by his stripes we are healed" refer strictly to physical healing then God is incompetent in light of the fact that Christians still get sick, we still go to their funerals, and Creflo Dollar still needs glasses to read a menu. Additionally, there are many other verses in the Bible which make no sense at all if, as many preachers declare, all of our sicknesses were eliminated when Jesus submitted to the whip.

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
3 John 1:2

 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
James 5:14

 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.
1 Timothy 5:23

If all disease was dealt a final blow when Jesus was whipped then why write the above at all? The truth is, since Jesus healed that unsightly rift between the Father and us we can enter into relationship with Him and have our souls renewed, addictions obliterated, relationships restored, and this is from whence physical healing flows. Our bodies were designed to function within the confines of relationship with Him.

Peter confirms this interpretation with the following (emphasis mine).

1 Peter 2:23  Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
25  For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

The word "stripes" appears seventeen times in the KJV of the Bible. In all of those cases it directly refers to punishment for wrong-doing. Jesus took our punishment so that we could freely enter in to the presence of the Father and petition Him for guidance in this life. God, our Father, is an ever present help in time of need but alas many, if not most believers have failed to access this place wherein God is "doing business" with His children. All too often Christians are all about the systems and the politics of religion. They force the adherence of rules rather than seeking that place of rest secured by the stripes borne by Jesus. It is only in this place of rest, the Sabbath rest of God, wherein God is meeting His people - that place of trust no matter what storms are brewing in the distance or near.

Hebrews 4:9  There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10  For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11  ¶Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

It is in this place of trust and rest wherein we find prosperity for our souls, the byproducts of which are real answers and real deliverance, in this life and the next.

Our current residence, the body, will not make the trip to the next realm. We are going to be giving it up one way or another. We will all be given a new body without all the aches and pains and brokenness. For now, we have a choice to make while we remain in this body: enter into that place of rest wherein God meets with His children and wherein healing power resides, or live in a place of stress and doubt and worry which only serves to make one sicker. It's your choice.

Huxley was correct. The amount of suffering in this world is immense and, for most westerners, unimaginable. Yet the Bible paints this exact scenario for the world following the fall of humanity. Because of the viral disease and corruption brought on by disobedience, a choice made by man, not God, we are in this state of devolution and biological and societal decay. Darwin jettisoned the final vestiges of faith when his daughter died - thinking how could this supposed "loving" God make such terrible decisions regarding the welfare of his daughter? But alas this state of affairs would have bolstered the faith of the thinking man unencumbered by the emotional baggage of a dying daughter. It is rather more historically accurate to assume Darwin shook his fist at God who appeared to lack sufficient concern for his child to interrupt the repercussions of our bio-father Adam's unintended decision to doom us all. And doomed we would be, if not for Jesus.

Since Jesus was doing plenty of healing before the whippings and subsequent crucifixion on the cross it would seem rather superfluous then to go through all of that torture for the sake of healing. Jesus was (and still is) more than able to heal... both before and following the sacrificial payment for the sins of the world.


Does God still heal the sick? Of course! Sometimes He even sends in a helicopter and air-lifts us out of certain situations. But at the end of the day He is most concerned with the genuine you. And He has provided a place for you and Him to meet. Fall into His embrace today. He is waiting for you. Do it now, In Jesus' name.

Obama evolves AGAIN! - weighs stepping in on gay marriage case

WASHINGTON (AP) — Facing heightened expectations from gay rights supporters, the Obama administration is considering urging the Supreme Court to overturn California's ban on gay marriage — a move that could have a far-reaching impact on same-sex couples across the country.

The administration has one week to file a friend-of-the-court brief with the justices outlining its opinion on the California ban, known as Proposition 8. While an administration brief alone is unlikely to sway the high court, the government's opinion does carry weight with the justices.

Opponents of the Proposition 8 ban believe the president signaled his intention to file a brief when he declared in last month's inaugural address that gays and lesbians must be "treated like anyone else under the law." An administration official said Obama — a former constitutional law professor — was not foreshadowing any legal action in his remarks and was simply restating his personal belief in the right of gays and lesbians to marry, though the official said the administration was considering filing a brief.

The Proposition 8 ballot initiative was approved by California voters in 2008 in response to a state Supreme Court decision that had allowed gay marriage. Twenty-nine other states have constitutional amendments banning gay marriage, while nine states and Washington, D.C., recognize same-sex marriage.

Solicitor General Donald Verrilli is consulting with the White House on the matter, according to a senior administration official, who spoke only on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to address the private deliberations publicly.

While the Justice Department would make the filing, the president is almost certain to make the ultimate decision on whether to do so.

"I have to make sure that I'm not interjecting myself too much into this process, particularly when we're not a party to the case," Obama said Wednesday in an interview with San Francisco's KGO-TV.

He said his personal view was that gay couples should have the same rights as straight couples and said his administration would do whatever it could to promote that principle.

Obama has a complicated history on gay marriage. As a presidential candidate in 2008, he opposed the California ban but didn't endorse gay marriage. As he ran for re-election last year, he announced his personal support for same-sex marriage but said marriage was an issue that should be decided by the states, not the federal government.

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Department of Public Safety has updated an online statement advising female students to consider a variety of unusual actions if they are attacked, including vomiting, urinating and claiming that they are menstruating.


The advisory was updated Monday evening, just hours after the Colorado state House of Representatives passed a package of gun control bills that includes one that would make it illegal for people with concealed weapons permits to carry guns on the campuses of public universities. The bills still have to go to the state Senate and governor.

BREAKING! U.S. Supreme Court Denied Without Comment Obama Eligibility Challenge

The U.S. Supreme Court in typical fashion denied without comment Dr. Orly Taitz's application for stay for the California electoral challenge Noonan v Bowen.  Dr. Taitz sought to strip California's electoral votes from Barack Obama based on his Article II ineligibility, his forged birth certificate, his forged Selective Service, and his Connecticut Social Security Number.  Included were Affidavits from DHS Special Agent Stephen Coffman and Debt Collector Albert Hendershot attesting to Obama's identity fraud.

It is reported that the U.S. Supreme Court Law Clerks did not even forward the pleadings to Five of the justices.

And as usual SCOTUS Squatters Sotomayor and Kagan did not recuse themselves. No conflicts of interest there, right?

UPDATE: "Attorney Orly Taitz continues with the demand for the Judiciary Committee to investigate the fact that 5 out 9 Justices of the Supreme Court never saw the case supposedly heard in conference by the Supreme Court and all 9 never saw the supplemental brief filed with SCOTUS, as 5 original sets of briefs were sent back and all supplemental briefs were sent back and never docketed.

An order by the Supreme Court shows a notation after case 12A712 applications denied, which appear to relate to case 12A606, however evidence shows that the case was not heard at all as 5 out of 9 Justices never even got a packet with pleadings.

How to Witness to a Closed-minded Person by Ray Comfort

You are about to share the gospel with someone, and he says, “I don’t believe in God or the Bible, it’s all bogus.”  If you think it’s the end of the conversation, I have some good news for you. I have found a key that unlocks a door that has just been slammed in your face. This key works. I know, because I have used it a thousand times.

Before we look at the key, let’s establish what we want to achieve (this is important, because our theology will dictate our methodology).  If we believe that people can be saved by making a decision, then our agenda will be to get decisions for Christ.  But if we believe that salvation is a work of God from beginning to end, we will be guided by that conviction.  I believe that we have as much to do with someone’s salvation as we do in making a tree. All we can do is plant the seed, and make sure it’s watered. It is God who makes the tree grow.  So my aim is simply to plant the seed of the Word of God in the prepared soil of the human heart.  Paul said, “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase” (1 Corinthians 3:6).

Now, let’s get back to the key that opens a closed door.  I approach a stranger and say a warm, “Good morning.” He gives a friendly response, so as I hand him a gospel tract I ask, “Did you get your trillion? I’m trying to fix the economy.”  I then ask, “What’s your name?” and introduce myself.

I say, “John, that’s a gospel tract. What do you think happens after someone dies—do you think that there is an afterlife?” He says, “No. There’s not. I don’t believe in God or the Bible. It’s all bogus.” The door is closed, so most of us at this point would probably say, “Okay then. It’s nice to meet you. Goodbye.”

Here now is the key that unlocks the closed door. I simply say, “I know that you don’t believe in those things, but if Heaven does exist, will you make it in--are you a good person? ” The word “if” is the key that will unlock the door.  I deliberately emphasize it as I say it, because it’s non-threatening.

Our goal is to present the gospel, and to make it make sense we need to do what Jesus did, and go through the moral Law (the Ten Commandments) to bring the knowledge of sin (Luke 10:25, Romans 3:19,20 and 7:7,13) and show the need for the Savior.

God has given us two very powerful helpers for this task. The primary helper is the Holy Spirit, and the other is the sinner’s conscience.  In Romans 2:15--16 the Scriptures speak of this second helper:

“They show that the essential requirements of the Law are written in their hearts and are operating there, with which their consciences (sense of right and wrong) also bear witness; and their [moral] decisions (their arguments of reason, their condemning or approving thoughts) will accuse or perhaps defend and excuse [them] on that day when, as my Gospel proclaims, God by Jesus Christ will judge men in regard to the things which they conceal (their hidden thoughts)” (Romans 2:15-16, Amplified Bible).

When the Bible says that “the essential requirements of the Law are written in their hearts” it means that the unregenerate person knows intuitively the code of conduct required by the Law. In other words his conscience is like an impartial judge in the courtroom of his mind, and that voice will accuse him of moral misconduct, if it is awakened from its sleeping state.

When the moral Law is properly presented, something wonderful begins to happen. The sinner’s dormant conscience awakens to do its God-given duty.  It affirms the truth of the Commandments. He intuitively knows that it’s wrong to lie, to steal, to blaspheme, and to commit adultery.  After going through the Commandments, “if” is once again used—“If God was to judge you by the Ten Commandments on Judgment Day, would you be innocent or guilty?” What he is hearing isn’t exactly what he wants to hear, but the accusations of guilt aren’t coming from without. They are coming from within his own heart, and that has the effect of stopping his mouth of justification, and helping him see that he has sinned against God.

Let me put it another way. It’s a very hot day. You are about to lift a glass of cool clear water to your parched lips.  Nothing else matters but quenching your ravenous thirst.  Then you hear someone say, “There’s arsenic in that water!” If it’s coming from a credible source, you will more than likely believe what you hear, pull that water away from your lips and tip it onto the ground.

We live among a hedonistic generation that drinks iniquity like water. Nothing else matters except quenching the thirst for sex, porn, parties and pleasure.  As the Scriptures say, “God is not in their thoughts.”  However, a biblical presentation of the gospel injects God into his thoughts and makes him think seriously about his own eternal salvation.

"Divine" spin of events will bring President Obama to Israel around Purim

Once again, another inexplicable, perhaps even divine spin of events, will bring President Obama to Israel around Purim. Some see this is an opportunity for Obama to press for a renewed peace initiative on the newly elected Knesset. Others, a politicized Obama trying to get himself into the spotlight for some lame foreign policy legacy.

Whatever the reason, the timing of this sudden and rushed decision of the American leadership to visit Israel cannot be ignored. Who can forget their meeting on Purim one year ago when Prime Minister Netanyahu put a magnificent, hand-written manuscript of the Scroll of Esther into the hands of President Obama? With Mordechai-like clarity, Netanyahu declared to Obama, “Mr. President, we must stop Iran, before they destroy us!”

For the Jewish Prime Minister, it is a no-brainer; Israel is facing a modern-day Haman. In his speech to the American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), a pro-Israel lobbying group, Netanyahu described Haman as "a Persian anti-Semite who tried to annihilate the Jewish people." Netanyahu explained that “In every generation, there are those who wish to destroy the Jewish people. In this generation, we are blessed to live in an age when there is a Jewish state capable of defending the Jewish people.”

North Korea threatens South with "final destruction"

(Reuters) - North Korea threatened South Korea with "final destruction" during a debate at the United Nations Conference on Disarmament on Tuesday, saying it could take further steps after a nuclear test last week.


"As the saying goes, a new-born puppy knows no fear of a tiger. South Korea's erratic behavior would only herald its final destruction," North Korean diplomat Jon Yong Ryong told the meeting.

Jon's comments drew quick criticism from other nations, including South Korea, France, Germany and Britain, whose ambassador Joanne Adamson said such language was "completely inappropriate" and the discussion with North Korea was heading in the wrong direction.

"It cannot be allowed that we have expressions which refer to the possible destruction of U.N. member states," she said.

Israel to give Obama a medal?

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel will award President Barack Obama the country's Presidential Medal of Distinction during his upcoming visit.

Israeli President Shimon Peres' office said Monday that Obama will be recognized for his "unique and significant contribution to strengthening the State of Israel and the security of its citizens."

Obama is scheduled to visit Israel in March — his first as president.

Obama has often had a tense relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the Jewish state's West Bank settlement policies and the lack of peace process with the Palestinians.

But Peres and the committee behind the award noted Obama's overall friendship and backing of the Iron Dome missile defense system.

Israel's Presidential Medal of Distinction is comparable to the France's "Legion of Honor" or the "Order of Canada."
